Riosuke enlisted into the U.S.Army on October 12, 1945 at
the age of 22.
After basic training he had additional training as a medical
corpsman.
It was in this capacity that Riosuke was assigned to the Mason
General Hospital in Brentwood, New York. Later he was transferred to the Valley
Forge General Hospital in Pennsylvania.
Riosuke has said that one of his most memorable and tragic
memories were working with servicemen who had been blinded during the war.
He was discharged from the military with the rank of PFC on
May 29, 1947.
